1 : 1 Mentoring session tailored specifically to suit your needs - newborn
If there's one thing I really love about my job (apart from taking the photos) it has to be helping beginner photographers.
I remember what it was like when I first started over 15 years ago, wondering if I would ever be good enough, if I could ever make a living from photography when there seems to be so many of us out there. Well the answer is YES, YES YOU CAN! It won't be easy and it may not go to plan but if you put the work in and really value what you do as a "real job" then you to can have a thriving business doing something you're passionate about. There is room for all of us and sharing what we know and encouraging each other to succeed can make us all feel happy inside!
I offer 1:1 mentoring for beginners that are tailored to suit your needs. I believe you will get the most out of this sessions by doing it in your own studio/home so I can really help you to use your space rather than mine but you are of course welcome to come to me if needed. I offer both natural or studio lighting depending on your set up. Approximately 6 hours (3/4 hours with baby). I will provide the newborn client & they will receive a 12x18 canvas print for their time. I will arrive a few hours before to go through setting up, camera settings, welcoming your clients, props & so on.
Requirements:
- A DSLR camera & choice of lens - recommended 35mm, 50mm or 24-70mm
- You should have a basic knowledge of using your camera in manual mode.
What we will cover :
- camera settings
- full newborn session
- welcoming your clients
- props & drops (setting up)
- settling
- posing (basic, this could be a whole session on it's own)
- basic wrapping (basic, practice makes perfect)
- angles
- lighting (studio or natural)
- safety
- workflow
- valuing yourself
- other questions you may have
Investment:
$1200 - half due at time of booking and final payment due on the day of the session.
ADD ON a 2 hour editing session in lightroom or photoshop. We will edit about 5 of the images you take and talk about how to achieve the style you like for your business.
$250 extra
As photographers we all do things differently, I will teach you the way I know and what has worked for me but remember whatever you learn is just one way of doing things and you will eventually find your own way as you move forward. This is all about you so I will ask a lot of questions before we start so I can guide you in the direction you wish to take your business. I will also give you some contacts for training in newborn safety, CPR and business coaching. Investing in learning is always worth while!
Testimonials
- I was so glad to have taken a one on one mentoring workshop with Kelley, she is an amazing mentor and an incredibly talented photographer. Kelley is so patient, and committed. She is very focused about the importance of baby safety during sessions and makes sure you have a full grasp of the techniques that Kelley herself uses and aims to pass onto her students. She helped me with my workflow, positioning and my confidence during sessions. Kelley is such a generous and caring person who is willing to help you to become a better photographer and I highly recommend a workshop with Kelley of Rule|of|Thirds Photography! Sandi
- When I first started out in the photography industry, I pretty much knew nothing. Not even how to set my camera properly. I had a few mentoring/one on one sessions with Kelley and I learnt and took away so much information. Kelley was patient, informative and has so much experience that it was the best thing I did to kick start my photography career. I still to this day, thank Kelley for helping me get to where I am and being so willing to answer any question I had, as silly as they may have been. I highly recommend Kelley to any beginner photographers out there! You won't look back! Lisa
- I found Kelley to do my family photos, I love her style and the finish is second to none. Kelley is so talented. I started my hobby of newborn photography and wanted to develop this into a business. I asked her to mentor me. Kelley came to my house, advised of all the equipment I needed, helped me understand my camera, and showed me her skills and tips including wrapping, positioning the baby and helped me with my confidence. The difference in my photos now is incredible. My experience didn’t end there, Kelley still messages me to check in to see how I am doing and is willing to answer any questions or help me with any hurdles. I am so grateful. Devina
